Market Environment Assessment - Recording is Below
MT Trading Relative Strength — What was Covered
Core Philosophy
Price action is the primary signal. Indicators are secondary and used only for scanning.
Candlesticks tell the story — their meaning comes from context: trend, support/resistance, multiple time frames, and relative strength.
Volume matters only when it spikes, and its significance depends on where the spike occurs relative to key levels.
Analytical Framework (Three-Legged Stool)
Technical Analysis: Trends, pivots, voids, bar-by-bar reading.
Intermarket Analysis: Oil, rates, equities, sector relationships.
Market Internals: Breadth, sentiment, put/call ratios.
Multiple Time Frame Alignment
Weekly, daily, and intraday trends must support each other.
Highest probability trades occur when trend + support + volume spike + price void all point the same direction.
Key Concepts
Pivot highs/lows: Confirm buyer/seller commitment.
Price voids: Fast-move zones with little prior trading.
Bottoming tail bars: Buyer rejection of lower prices.
Retest reversals: Confirm support and create entry signals.
Wide-range bars: Momentum or exhaustion depending on context.
Market Conditions (Session Day)
QQQ: Near bottom of multi-month range; 700 is major support confirmed by huge open interest.
SPY: Holding rising 50MA; institutions expected to defend.
Dow: Near ATH but weakening intraday.
IWM: Broke pivot low; showing clear weakness.
Overall: Markets chopping sideways since May — low-probability directional environment.
Intermarket Drivers
Oil spike → inflation fear → rates up → equities pressured.
If oil/rates roll over, equities gain breathing room.
Internals
Breadth improving but major indices still sideways.
Massive put/call positioning at QQQ 700 confirms institutional support.
Relative Strength & Sector Rotation
Strong Sectors
Energy (XLE): Only clearly green; VLO strongest within sector.
Semiconductors: Green despite prior breakdown; mixed leadership.
Tech: Holding support but overhead resistance remains.
Weak Areas
IWM, software, most sectors red except energy and semis.
Notable Stocks
VLO: Strong RS, pivot support, 100MA.
AKAM: Wide-range bullish bar at support.
AVGO: Weak vs. semis; credit spread candidate.
TXN: Range-bound; iron condor candidate.
Nvidia: Underperforming; institutions defending 200MA.
Penguin Solutions: All-time highs; RS standout.
Options Strategy Highlights
Focus on put credit spreads below strong support.
Requirements:
RS or bottoming pattern
Strike “nearly impossible” to reach
Minimum ~$0.50 premium
Tight bid/ask spreads
Live examples: AKAM, AVGO, NVDA — no trades taken due to insufficient premium.
Key Insight
Whole-number open interest (e.g., QQQ 700) creates real support zones.
Sector Trend Dashboard
Weekly manual matrix across ~50 ETFs.
Biotech: All green.
Software: Transitioning from downtrend to sideways.
Medical Devices: Bottoming.
Homebuilders: Sideways, pressured by rates.
Psychology & Money Management
Position sizing determines emotional stability.
Never overload a single trade — anything can fail.
Choppy markets = stand aside or use credit spreads.
Journaling recommended (OneNote).
AI & Technology
AI improving scanning efficiency but visual chart reading remains irreplaceable.
TC2000 bug noted in “near 20MA” scan.
