In today’s Technical Market Briefing – Crash Day: Voids, we walked through the significance of Wide Range Bars and how they must be analyzed across multiple time frames to fully understand momentum and risk.

Wide Range Bars on the daily chart represent strong institutional participation and directional conviction. When examined on intraday charts, these daily momentum bars typically unfold through sustained trending moves that leave behind voids — areas where price moved so quickly that little support or resistance was formed. These voids often become important reference points when markets later retrace or shift direction.

During the session, we reviewed several major indices to highlight how yesterday’s price action developed across multiple time frames. The most notable takeaway was the market’s complete reversal of the prior bullish Wide Range Bar. While full retracements of bullish WRBs are historically uncommon, they reinforce an important technical reality: momentum bars can become structural weak points when buyers lose control.

The reversal itself produced a bearish Wide Range Bar, creating a new downside void and expanding the range of potential outcomes moving forward. While a full retracement of the prior advance remains a lower-probability scenario, it is now within the realm of possibility, reminding traders that markets operate on probabilities rather than certainty.

As emphasized throughout the briefing, understanding price movement across multiple time frames helps traders better anticipate shifts in supply and demand. However, even the strongest technical signals can fail. That is why position sizing and money management must remain core components of every trading plan. Without them, traders place themselves at significant risk when momentum reverses unexpectedly.

This type of price action is often emotionally challenging, but it provides valuable information about market structure, sentiment, and opportunity. Staying objective, flexible, and disciplined allows traders to adapt as new information unfolds.
